Portuguese Tarts
Blistered custard, shatter-crisp pastry. The first thing to sell out.

French bakery & patisserie · Malvern
Croissants laminated by hand, Portuguese tarts that sell out early, and coffee worth the walk — baked fresh every single morning on Glenferrie Road.
Our story
Provence Bakers is a French-style bakery on Glenferrie Road, where owner Rach bakes everything fresh on site, daily. Doughs are mixed before dawn, pastries laminated by hand, and the trays keep coming out through the morning.
Inside, it's small and warm — three little pockets of seating, a glass cabinet stacked with tarts and slices, and a coffee machine that never really stops. Locals come for a quick croissant; most end up staying.

Signature bakes
The counter changes daily with the season and the bake. These are the ones regulars call ahead for.

Blistered custard, shatter-crisp pastry. The first thing to sell out.

Hand-laminated each morning, plain, almond or fruit-filled.

House-made pastry, roasted vegetables, plenty of pepper.

Deep-filled, cut generously, gone by lunchtime.

Soft, buttery, and the reason for a lot of five-star reviews.

Layers of puff pastry, thick vanilla custard, dusted sugar.

Built on our own bread, made fresh through the morning.
